On July 25th SAG-AFTRA voted to strike against all video game companies signed to their Interactive Media Agreement. This strike is to come to an agreement regarding the use of AI in video game creation, as well as other protections for actors in video games.
2D Con stands with SAG-AFTRA members in support of this strike and understands the complex nature of negotiations and the importance of protecting actors.
What this means?
This means that video game actors are not allowed to promote and upcoming or previously released projects that they worked on under the SAG-AFTRA agreements, including discussing these projects at conventions.
How this affects 2D Con
Currently we are non-aware of any potential conflicts with our scheduled guests. However, many of our guests are standing in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and will not be discussing certain projects. Certain guests may choose to not sell signed prints or merchandise related to specific games or answer any related questions.
We are not expecting any panel or programming changes as a result of this strike. Q&A time at guest panels may be limited.
Is X Game Allowed?
While we can not confirm which games are impacted as the SAG-AFTRA agreement covers thousands of titles. We can confirm that Baldur’s Gate III and Resident Evil are both non-struck games and will be safe for the guests to discuss.
